Sir, – If anyone was wondering why parking on footpaths, in cycles lanes, at junctions, running of red lights and other motoring infractions are tolerated to such a broad extent, then the mystery was finally revealed in Government Buildings on Tuesday last: the motoring public must not be annoyed (“Public may be asked to take one less car journey per week in second phase of proposed strategy”, News, April 19th).
With such a show of deference to motorists, all I can say to the aspiration expressed by our political leaders is: “Good luck with that!”. And to the unnamed local authority official, who is reported to have described restrictions as “aggressively anti-car” (Letters, April 20th), I say, as I watch 19 cars park on a suburban footpath while their drivers wait to collect secondary school children: “Stop gaslighting us!” – Yours, etc,
