Sir, – In May I bought a lovely cup of coffee and a tasty toasted sandwich, served on a terrace overlooking La Concha Bay in San Sebastián, for €3.50. I resisted the kneejerk urge to make comparisons with Ireland, since wages and other costs are lower in Spain.
But the knee sprung into action this week when I made a medium cup of coffee, at a machine in a Co Limerick filling station, and drank it from a cardboard cup outside the premises for the stunning price of €3.10. – Yours, etc,
LIAM STENSON,
Galway.
