Madam, - I have just returned from a week in rural France. Not a small village shop in sight. In England, seven out of 10 villages have no local shop. So let's do the same here in Ireland: get rid of the Groceries Order and all our village shops in the name of progress and Hobbsian economics. We won't worry about the social cost as we now have the roads, the money and the cars to drive the 20 miles to our local Tesco for the bread and milk.

Long-term below-cost selling makes great economic sense! Thank you, Tesco et al. Good man, Eddie. It won't be long before you'll be bowling alone. - Yours, etc,
