Sir, - I found The Abbey's recent production of Juno and The Paycock both tired and expensive. I teach students from the Dublin 1 area and the cheapest seats were £8. We were in the last two rows of the theatre.
The Abbey is our national theatre and should cater for all. The tickets must be cheaper to cater for students from lower economic backgrounds, some of whom may be attempting higher level English. The students I teach deserve more consideration.
My feeling is that The Abbey is "cashing in" on the Leaving Certificate productions and I have yet to see "heart" in these productions. The Abbey tends to rely too heavily on impressive stage sets. - Yours, etc. G. Lonergan,
Dublin 3.
