Sir, – With regard to your article on the Presidential Awards and the $30,000 raised for Navaho Covid relief by the Irish Cultural Centre and the McClelland Library (News, December 2nd). This was highly laudable and while I in no way wish to detract from it I would like to point out that the Irish are playing a major role in fundraising for Covid relief among the Navaho and Hopi Nations.
Irish people have contributed well over €1 million to the Navaho and Hopi Families Covid-19 Relief Fund on GoFundMe, and Irish individuals continue to contribute, with donations being made every day.
One of the reasons for this is to express gratitude for the contribution made by the Choctaw Tribe to Irish Famine relief at a time when they had little. It is a great pleasure to simply go to the site and scroll through the list of donations and see the number of Irish who have contributed. – Yours, etc,
MICHAEL POWELL,
Inistioge, Co Kilkenny.
