Madam, - It amazes me how worked up people get about some matters. Those who do not care for, or use, Irish are not being asked to speak Irish. Those of us who do speak Irish in our daily lives are now being given official recognition for that. There is no more to it.
Three letter-writers your edition of June 16th deride the efforts of the Government. Wouldn't they be better off either (a) contributing positively to the language by using whatever Irish they have, as many have done in their letters, be it only a few words or phrases, or else (b) saying nothing as they having little to contribute.
My question is this: if Irish does not interest them or concern them, why get all worked up about it? Nothing will change for them, but for those of us who do speak Irish much has changed. - Yours, etc,
COLM Ó HANLUAIN, Cloughjordan, Co Tipperary.
