Sir, – I, for one, take the "unsentimental view" of undocumented Irish in the United States, as referred to in your editorial of June 26th ("Give them help, not handcuffs").
People in this position knew what they were doing was wrong. The argument that they have paid taxes, etc, has no merit.
If a homeowner found on return from holiday that a squatter had taken up residence, I think the former would be very surprised to hear the latter claim that he had acquired a right to stay on because he had stocked the fridge and paid an electricity bill. – Yours, etc,
