Sir, - I refer to a letter published in your edition (August 22nd), on problems being caused by slow drivers on our roads. May I add further comment?
On Wednesday of this week (August 20th), I drove from Limerick to Dublin, in the afternoon. I scrupulously observed every speed limit which I encountered, as well as the general 60 mph, and 70 mph on the motorway sections. I was passed out by almost everything which came behind me, including heavy commercial vehicles, even on the motorway sections. The only vehicles which I was able to pass out were of the agricultural variety, not one of which appeared to be licensed for the public road. I arrived at Newlands Cross, Clondalkin, in two hours and 45 minutes, despite a hold up due to roadworks at Rathcoole.
Is this a record? - Yours, etc.,
Michael T. Donnellan,
