Madam, – EF Fanning’s proposal (November 12th) for an additional day of commemoration and the wearing of a symbolic black rose initially deserves serious attention, but why restrict it to those killed by the perfidious Brits? Why exclude, among others, the victims of American, Argentinian, French, German, Japanese, Nigerian, Polynesian, Serbian, Spanish, and Soviet aggression? And if, as suggested, this memorial should extend to those killed throughout the centuries, it should also pay tribute to those who resisted the forces of the Roman Empire, Carthage, Troy, Persia, and Israel, never mind the rest. – Yours, etc,
