Sir, - Rick Tocci (August 2nd) may well believe that "the people of the United States, through its elected leaders, are rejecting treaties and protocols that threaten the best interests of its citizens." But isn't it rather in the best interests of the oil industry, the defence contractors, and various other business interests, in whose pockets his elected leaders reside, that these treaties and protocols are being rejected?
His simplistic view of issues that ultimately affect all citizens of the world seems extremely naive to those of us who clearly see the democratic process in his country being seriously undermined by corporate profit. - Yours, etc.,
Daniel Dowdall, Lower Shore, Omeath, Co Louth.
