PARALYMPICS:BOCCIA PLAYER Gabriel Shelly, the Sydney gold-medallist, saw off Brock Richardson of Canada 4-2 in his first match, then beat Mauricio Ibarbure of Argentina 3-2 with a late winner.

Padraic Moranalso got off to a good start, beating David Smith of Britain 9-0, but then lost lost to Antonio Marques of Portugal. Tom Leahylost both his matches, while Roberta Connollylost 5-0 to Cao Fei of China before beating Roberto Leglice of Argentina 4-3.

Catherine Walshand pilot Joanna Hickeyset an Irish record of 1:16.208 in the final of the 1km time-trial, finishing seventh overall.

In the men's individual pursuit qualification, Enda Smythset another Irish record in finishing seventh on 3:55.919, while Michael Delaneyand pilot David Peelofinished 13th.
