Looking over the game, on the Cork side I thought that the back division played well as a unit, particularly Aidan Lynch, Martin Cronin, Owen Sexton and Ciaran O'Sullivan, who each contributed handsomely to Cork's effort. They were especially good in covering for each other.

But up front I thought that corner forward Philip Clifford was probably the best player on the field at Croke Park. After a slow start from Cork, because of a lack of ball and Mayo dominating the early stages of match, Clifford was in the right place at the right time to get Cork back into the game.

The goal he was able to score before half-time was crucial. It brought them right back into the match.

He was the only forward who was able to get possession of the ball with ease, and his all-round contribution to the score - a goal and four points - was extremely influential.

But Clifford was also instrumental in setting up the final goal for substitute Fionan Murray, which showed he also has an all-round potential.

He is the type of class player that top sides need to make a difference. He is very accurate with the left foot and plays very much in the corner forward role, always showing well for the ball. Clifford also illustrated some intelligent use of the ball.

I think he is very important to the balance of the Cork forward line, and is also very accurate from free kicks, which is critical for any winning formula.
