Kerry 3-17 Limerick 1-11:Kerry continued their winning ways, with a comprehensive victory over Limerick in this McGrath Cup semi-final, played at the Fitzgerald Stadium Killarney, but it was a lot closer than the scoreline would suggest for at least 40 minutes of this contest when errors, and inexperience, led to Kerry taking full advantage.
Limerick more than matched their Kerry opponents in the opening quarter, with the boot of Ian Ryan keeping the visitors in touch. But Darran O’Sullivan’s electric pace and finishing of James O’Donoghue proving too much for a Limerick defence whose lack of discipline proved costly at times.
Kerry made their move in the five minute spell before half-time, when O’Sullivan blasted to the Limerick net and on the stroke of half-time, O’Donoghue to left the score 2-7 to 0-6 at the break.
Limerick rallied early in the second period when Darragh Treacy drove through the middle for a fine goal but the Kingdom took over and a 1-8 to 0-0 run between 46th and 60th minute, including a second goal for O’Donoghue settled the contest.
