Latton 0-10 Glenswilly 0-9:LATTON SURVIVED a late barrage in Ballybofey to hold off the challenge of Donegal champions Glenswilly .
The Monaghan champions led by four points with three minutes of normal time left before Glenswilly hit a purple patch, aided by the dismissal of Latton full back Edmund Lennon for a second yellow card offence, but ultimately their efforts weren’t enough.
Glenswilly opened well with Gary McFadden pointing inside two minutes and Neil Gallagher doubled the lead two minutes later. The home side were still two ahead on 13 minutes, but then failed to raise a flag until first half added time as Owen Lennon took control of the midfield area for the Monaghan men.
Lennon hit two points and Shane Coyle added another while Caolan Kelly tied up the scores at the break 0-4 each.
Latton again enjoyed superiority at the start of the second half and a post denied them a goal when Stephen McElroy was clean through. But thanks to the industry of Coyle, they were 0-10 to 0-6 ahead with 10 minutes left and that margin remained until Glenswilly’s late burst.
Murphy, showing signs of fatigue from his trip to Australia, started the comeback and Joe Gibbons and Brian Farrelly also added points for a nerve jangling end.
Apart from the influential Lennon and Coyle, Kieran and Owen Duffy also played well for the winners while Neil Gallagher and Gary McFadden carried the most threat for Glenswilly.
