Black websites in memory of Balkans victims

Peace campaigners turned their websites black for a day in memory of the victims of the Balkans conflict.

Peace campaigners turned their websites black for a day in memory of the victims of the Balkans conflict.

The protest linked all the participating sites in a chain, so that someone surfing the Net and arriving at one site could automatically jump to another site in the chain after a few seconds.

The organisers, based in Norway (http://www.kit.ntnu.no/stud/barcley), hoped people will view the chain of websites as "a long chain of silence moving around the world".

All webmasters signing up for the protest were asked to turn at least one page of their site black, with no text or embellishment except for a short message of their own to appear in the title bar of the web browser.
