The owners of Liffey Valley shopping centre have announced plans for a €26 million expansion of the centre.

Hines Ireland and its partners HSBC Alternative Investments Limited and Grosvenor Britain & Ireland said the investment would add 10,500 square metres to the busy retail centre.

The extended space will accommodate a new Penneys store as well as six restaurants over three floors.

The projects will entail the construction of a new facade to the western end of the complex and reconfiguration of the existing VUE Cinema.

The owners said planning permission for the development was granted in 2013.

The project is expected to create up to 225 construction jobs during the development phase and about 450 full and part-time jobs upon completion – bringing the total number of people employed within the centre to more than 2,500.

The cinema upgrade is expected to open this autumn, with the new Penneys store due to open in late 2016.
