The Marketing Society is bringing together Communicorp chief executive Gervais Slowey, Aer Lingus director of marketing Michelle Lee and Heineken marketing director Sharon Walsh for a panel discussion this Thursday on brand-building in the connected world.

Slowey will explore how to make brands matter in the boardroom. Lee will discuss the challenges of brand building to compete with a Goliath, while Walsh will reveal her thoughts behind banning the word digital.

Michael Clancy, the Mediavest MD and chairman of the Marketing Society, said that the speakers, who have all brought about great change within their own organisations, would be sharing advice on brand-building in challenging business environments.

Last month, Minister for Jobs Mary Mitchell O’Connor launched a public consultation on a report by barrister Nessa Cahill and Labour Court chairman Kevin Duffy of their review of employee protection legislation in the context of ensuring that limited liability or restructuring are not used to avoid a company’s obligations to its staff .

The report was commissioned as part of the government's response to the closure of Clerys department store in 2015.

“The manner in which Clerys workers lost their jobs was totally unacceptable,” Mitchell O’Connor said.

“It raised questions as to how the relevant provisions of employment law and company law could be exploited to produce an outcome never intended by the respective codes of law.”
