Frankfurt Dax: 5388.94 (-53.06)

The Frankfurt stock market booked a sizeable loss due to the dollar's weakness and a Wall Street decline on Monday, traders said. A Merrill Lynch broker commented: "The dollar's weakness brought some profit-taking on shares sensitive to the greenback's fluctuations". Brokers said the surprise increase in growth of the German M3 money supply, up 5.1 per cent in March at an annual rate, helped strengthen the mark. Analysts said the increase in M3 should not bring any German rate rise in the near future.

Paris CAC-40: 3680.40 (-25.29)

The Paris Bourse lost ground, mainly due to the dollar's weakness, traders said. The French bond market declined after the release of German money supply figures showing M3 up by 5.1 per cent at an annual rate in March, well above forecasts. The data may refuel speculation about a German rate rise.
