Cyril Roux, deputy governor of the Central Bank of Ireland, has been appointed to the management board of the European regulatory body, the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA). Mr Roux will sit on the board for a term of two and a half years beginning on November 1st.

ESMA is an independent EU Authority that was established on January 1st 2011 and works closely with the other European supervisory authorities responsible for banking (EBA), and insurance and occupational pensions (EIOPA), and the European Systemic Risk Board (ESRB). The management board of ESMA is responsible for ensuring that the Authority carries out its mission and performs the tasks assigned to it under the regulation.

The other members of the ESMA board are: Steven Maijoor, ESMA (chair); Kostas Botopoulos, Hellenic Capital Markets Commission (HCMC), Greece; Gérard Rameix, Autorité des Marchés Financiers (AMF), France; Klaus Kumpfmüller, Finanzmarktaufsicht (FMA), Austria; Marek Szuszkiewicz, Komisja Nadzoru Finanswego (KNF), Poland; and Martin Wheatley, Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), United Kingdom.
