Davy, the stockbroker and financial adviser, is teeing itself up for what its staff hope will be a lucrative 2016 with a sponsorship deal for Paul Dunne, the Wicklow golfer who led last year's Open Championship heading into the final round, the first amateur to do so in almost nine decades.
Dunne’s challenge fell away on the final day of the Open, but it was still a phenomenal achievement for a then-amateur.
He has since turned professional, so Davy will also be Dunne’s financial adviser. If he can keep up his good form on the tour in 2016, he should give the firm’s bean counters plenty to do.
Stockbrokers, according to the stereotype, love a game of golf when they’re not doing deals.
No doubt Dunne will be in high demand among Davy’s senior charges for swing tips.
The Davy-Dunne sponsorship deal will be formally announced later today.
