Almac to create 1,000 jobs in NI over next three years

Pharma company also adding a further 800 jobs across its global operations

Almac is to create 1,000 jobs in Northern Ireland over the next three years.

The company, which has its headquarters in Craigavon and also has sites in Britain, North America, Singapore, Japan and the Nordic regions, is also adding a further 800 jobs across its global operations.

Almac, which provides a range of services to the pharmaceutical and biotech sectors, said the new jobs include operational, supervisory and managerial roles.

The company, which marked 50 years in business in 2018, said the new jobs would see the number it employs rise to 8,000 people across 19 sites.

The group earlier this year reported revenues of £677.3 million (€794 million) for 2020, a 6 per cent increase on the prior year.

"Almac's mission is to advance human health and we are proud to be supporting so many global clients as they develop their life-saving treatment for patients in need," said chief executive Alan Armstrong.

Almac was first established in 2002 by Allen McClay. He formed the busienss by investing about £240 million to acquire four service-based businesses from Galen Holdings PLC, which he had originally founded as Galen Ltd in 1968.
