Private healthcare group Bon Secours has completed its takeover of Barringtons Hospital, which the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission approved recently.
Cork-based Bon Secours is buying the Limerick hospital for a reported €15 million from its owner, surgeon Paul Byrne, subject to a number of conditions agreed with the mergers regulator.
The company confirmed on Friday that it had competed the deal. Its chief executive, Bill Maher, said it had ambitious plans for the hospital's development, including "extensive refurbishment, recruitment of additional consultant staff and the introduction of new services".
The Bon Secours now has operations in Cork, Dublin, Galway, Kerry and Limerick.
