Vodafone has launched a television service in Ireland. The telecoms company will sell a basic Vodafone TV package to its home broadband customers for €70 a month, while a Vodafone TV Plus bundle with additional channels and services has a standard price of €80 per month.

Both options have a six-month introductory price of €40 a month and both packages are subject to an 18-month contract.

The company said it would have a dedicated Netflix button on its remote controls and personal profiles for each member of the household. Its range of services also include a facility to scroll back up to seven days on its electronic programme guide and an ability to restart a programme - both functions were recently added to the Virgin Media platform.

Like its competitors, Vodafone will also offer an app that allows customers to watch programmes across devices.

Vodafone's decision to join cable operator Virgin and telecoms group Eir in the so-called quad-play market has been expected for some time. All three companies now sell bundles of broadband, television, home phone and mobile phone services.

Its television services, which are delivered via broadband, are available to customers who have speeds of at least 40 MB per second.
