The Internet-based training company, Smartforce, was chosen yesterday by Microsoft to work with its Microsoft Certified Professionals scheme. The Irish firm said the arrangement would allow Smartforce - formerly CBT - to stay abreast of software developments at Microsoft and open new markets for Internet-based training.
From next week, Smartforce will provide online continuing education for more than 600,000 Microsoft certified professionals, offering a dedicated "e-Learning" website with access to Microsoft-approved courseware, the company said.
"Smartforce's e-learning solution enables Microsoft certified professionals worldwide to stay on top of new Microsoft products and emerging technologies," said Mr Greg Priest, the company's chief executive.

Last night, after the announcement, the Smartforce share price was trading up over $2 at $23.31 1/4, a gain of nearly 10 per cent and within sight of the $27.25 price before last week's share collapse, after the group announced its change of focus towards the Internet. The announcement saw $510 million (#471 million) wiped off the company's market value, as investors took fright at the sudden change in direction.
Ms Donna Senko, Microsoft's director of certification and skills assessment, said it was critical for computer professionals to keep up with the technologies they use each day and be prepared for new products and technologies.
