With Apple’s announcement of a brand new Macbook, you’d be forgiven for looking at your old Macbook in a new light. The 12-inch Macbook is not only sleeker than its Macbook Air sibling (depending on the Air model you choose), but it’s got a Retina display (higher resolution) and it comes in gold.
The new trackpad technology, while we’re not fans of the name (Force Touch?), works better than you’d think. It distinguishes between a short press and a long press, and performs accordingly.
To give you a real life example, fast forwarding through a video can be sped up simply by adjusting the pressure on the trackpad.
The keyboard has also been redesigned. Not only does it feel very comfortable, but it is also more accurate. We never really had any problems with the original keyboard, but the new version feels notably different.
The nine-hour battery life is eclipsed by the Air's official 11-hour life, but it's a small price to pay. And Apple has stripped all the ports from the new Macbook, giving you one USB-C port to perform all your functions: video, charging, data transfer.
