Smartphones have largely replaced standalone video cameras as the device of choice for capturing family memories. It makes sense then that the software to edit these videos keep up in terms of ease of use and the number of features available. Apple’s latest version of iMovie makes it easier to get started with creating your own movies. Storyboards, for example, cover a variety of genres, from product reviews to cooking tutorials and news reports, providing you with tips, shot lists and different styles and colour palettes to suit your needs. Or you can go for the hands off approach, and use the new Magic Movie setting, which creates custom videos in a few taps, identifying the best parts of the selected footage and creating a finished video for you with titles, transitions and music.

And the best bit is that iMovie 3.0 is available as a free update on the App Store for compatible devices.
