Take a look at the Beam. It looks a bit like an overly teched-up light bulb, but it’s actually a smart projector, one that turns any flat surface into a screen and screws into any compatible light fitting.

It comes with its own speakers, the ability to connect to the internet and Bluetooth.

Controlled by an app on your Android or Apple phone or tablet, Beam lets you take advantage of the apps for the system too. So you could watch Netflix and project it on to your ceiling, or connect the device to IFTTT and have it automatically perform tasks such as displaying social media updates or news headlines on a surface at a specific time.

You can share family photos without having to drag out a dusty projector (and go back to 1985 when people still invited each other over for photo viewings) or use it to beam presentations on to a table or wall at work.
