Banking malware, Android attacks and online ad bugs will feature heavily at the Source Dublin conference in Trinity College over the next two days.
The IT security-focused event is expected to attract up to 100 international academic and IT security specialists.
"Usually you're travelling far afield – generally the US – to speak at events like this," said Darragh Delaney of Galway-based IT security specialists, NetFort.
With a “very impressive” line-up of speakers confirmed, Delaney is presenting a talk on Friday looking into how the security industry can better protect the network perimeter as it’s stretched by mobile devices.
Boston-based Stacy Thayer, who is organising the event, said that Ireland's "strong security scene" is one of the prime reasons the international series of conferences is returning to Trinity for a second year in a row, praising the local chapter of the Open Web Application Security Project (OWASP) as being of particular help in bringing the event back to Dublin.
With a mix of high-level security industry representatives and academics in attendance, Brian Honan, founder of the Irish Reporting and Information Security Service (IRISSCERT), and another conference speaker, said "the organisers ensure a mix of speakers and topics that suit both the techies and the management types within the information security community".
