Keep Tabs on Your iPhone’s Battery Life

Remotely monitor your iPhone's battery life with iBetterCharge, a free utility for Mac or PC. Setting up is easy: connect your phone via USB; it's monitored over WiFi thereafter. When the iPhone's battery begins to run low a warning is sent to your laptop to plug it in and charge. Set the warning notification for anywhere between 50 per cent and 5 per cent. This application also has the option to notify when your iPhone is fully charged. And it's free.

What's the Freq. ie, Kenneth?
Irish start-up Freq is onto a winner with an Android app (and soon, an iPhone one) that monitors your smartphone coverage and activity to deliver personalised recommendations on what mobile network you should be using. Your "Freq score" is a single number that is based on coverage fluctuation, network response and the technology used.

The Netfreq platform analyses network coverage highs and lows and, using data from thousands of users, this will also build a more accurate (and honest) picture of performance of all the major mobile networks throughout the country.

Manage your Literary Life with Rooster
Think of Rooster as a personal assistant-cum-trainer to expand your literary tastes. For US$5 a month you're given recommendations for two novels that complement each other; one a classic and the other contemporary. The twist is that the Rooster app delivers these books in 15-minute chunks on a daily basis (the fee is for the service – it doesn't include the actual eBooks). I suppose the idea is that you're spoon-fed highbrow reads in an attempt to become cultured with as little pain as possible. You can always fit it in during the Honey Boo Boo ad breaks.
