Passenger numbers at Dublin Airport increased by 6 per cent in June of this year compared to the same month last year, making it the busiest June in the airport’s 77-year history.
Some 2.9 million people passed through the airport in the month with the largest cohort making trips to and from continental Europe. Almost 1.6 million passengers flew to and from European destinations, an increase of 7 per cent, while UK traffic remained static with some 844,000 passengers flying to and from the UK in June.
Growth in transatlantic traffic was significant, recording an 18 per cent increase, with some 385,000 people travelling between Dublin and North America last month.
Positive results
Other international traffic, including flights to the Middle East and North Africa, grew by 6 per cent as 71,500 passengers went to those destinations.
As with trends in previous passenger reports, domestic traffic continued to decline, this time by 8 per cent, with over 8,000 people taking flights within the Republic last month.
The positive results in June round off what has been a good first half of the year for Dublin Airport. Almost 804,000 additional passengers have passed through the Airport’s doors in the first six months of the year compared to the same period in 2016.
The 6 per cent increase means that over 13.8 million passengers used the facility in the 6 months to the end of June.
