As the recent Punk 45 compilation showed, there was something in the water in Ohio in the 1970s which produced so many fantastically far-out, weirdbeard acts. It wasn't just Pere Ubu or Devo, either, who were fermenting that Akron sound, as this reissue of 15-60-75's debut live album, Jimmy Bell's Still In Town, shows. Recorded when they supported Bob Marley & The Wailers in Cleveland in 1975, it's a document of a band who only knew one way to play and that was to play like beasts. A full-tilt boogie informed by Krautrock, Afrobeat, jazz, leftfield funk, artrock and Beefheartian psychedelia, Jimmy Bell hits you right between the eyes time and time again. They're still together today, albeit with several line-up changes in between, though founder member Robert Kidney is still on board. numbersband.com
