World War Z is the first movie score to use the teeth and skulls of pigs as percussion instruments and to base its melodies and harmonies on the US Emergency Broadcast siren. Marco Beltrami's idiosyncratic approach infuses his dynamic new music for the apocalyptic action movie with a pulsing drive and a cool urgency. Having cut his teeth (excuse the pun) on the Scream franchise, Beltrami has evolved a signature style of elegant themes, spare orchestration, jittery electronica and sonic experimentation on such diverse scores as 3:10 to Yuma, The Hurt Locker and The Sessions. All of which are superbly featured on World War Z, which navigates with brio and energy between adrenalin-pumping action (Philadelphia), nerve-shredding suspense (No Teeth No Bite), and charged drama (The Lane Family, Wales). worldwarzmovie.com
