Trumpeter, composer and one-man music industry Dave Douglas celebrates his half-century with a box set from his own Greenleaf label containing his three most recent releases and a bonus DVD of studio performances and music videos. Included in the shiny blue box is Douglas's acclaimed 2012 release, the haunting and poignant Be Still, with American folk singer Aoife O'Donovan added to Douglas's regular quintet, singing the hymns the trumpeter's mother asked him to play at her funeral. Throw in this year's excellent quintet release Time Travel, and Pathways, a new sextet recording made at the Banff Centre for the Arts in Canada, where Douglas was director of the jazz programme, and you have a triple helping of one of the most influential jazz musicians currently working in New York. davedouglas.com
