Label: Self-released

After a lifetime playing in other people’s shadows, notably those of Mary Black and Christy Moore, guitarist-producer Declan Sinnott has found his own voice. And a quietly impressive one it is as the 64-year-old muses on his world without and within.

This is his second solo album, following 2012's I Love the Noise It Makes, and he builds on that album's unhurried, melodic, folky, soft-shoe rock.

He writes or co-writes (with Owen O’Brien) all 12 tracks, playing all instruments including very tasteful guitar. His only concession to external influence comes in the sweet harmonies of partner Vickie Keating.

And therein lies its strength and its weakness; his natural sense of warmth and craft swathed in a predictable, if comforting, soundscape.
