There's seemingly no let up in the demand for (and supply of) singer-songwriters with striking voices who can pen dramatic heartbreakers. Matthew Daniel Siskin earns a decent coin in his day job as a digital design guru, but his guise as modern bluesman Gambles is the far more interesting proposition. His croon is a prize-winning ticket in itself, a cracked voice that reminds you of Leonard Cohen's maxim about the gift of a golden voice. But the voice would be merely admirable without a decent range and span of songs to go with it. The patterns and edges of a troubled life can be hard on 265, the sublime Rooftops and the blue-tinged misery of the title track. Stark, emotional and honest, Trust is the best bittersweet suite of songs you'll come across this month. gmbls.com
