John Escreet has been keeping pretty fast company since he relocated to Brooklyn from the UK eight years ago. Musicians such as Dave Binney, Chris Potter and Wayne Krantz are among the best and busiest on the New York scene, but all have found time for the Doncaster-born composer's projects. These have covered the waterfront, from funk to free, suggesting a inquisitive musician with a wide angle lens. For his sixth release, Escreet reconnects with his native scene in the shape of free jazz talisman Evan Parker. Pure improvisation has always had a particular resonance in Britain, and Parker has been its champion since the 1960s. Here, like a pied piper, he leads Escreet's regular trio, with drummer Tyshawn Sorey and bassist John Hébert, on a trip to the frontier. johnescreet.com
