In between his five albums as Nostalgia 77, Benedic Lamdin has worked as a producer, engineer and/or hired musical hand for Jamie Cullum, Alice Russell, Jeb Loy Nichols, Robert Stillman and a host of others. What he's taken from these studio scenes is a fondness for fuss-free structures, infectious melodies and smartly turned-out arrangements. Lamdin has also broadened the roots of his sound, moving further away from the dancefloor jazz and trip-hop hues that coloured earlier Nostalgia 77 albums. With vocals from Nicholas and German singer Josa Peit and psych-folk blowing wildly throughout, Lamdin hits a fine run. That Peit has tones and timbres akin to Minnie Ripperton gives Your Love Weighs a Tonne and What Do You Know a lovely, bluesy swing and punch. A work of considerable distinction. nostalgia77.com
