Tim Garland is a musical magpie, pilfering sounds and styles from around the world and feathering his own musical nest with their lustrous grooves and shiny melodies.
The Englishman’s latest recording is a return to his roots in rock and fusion, but with other layers added - from the ‘Celtic’ trappings of the British folk scene to Middle Eastern grooves and the Spanish tinge of his long-time employer, Chick Corea.
With regular collaborators, the lithe Asaf Sirkis on drums and the brightly inventive Jason Rebello on piano, plus a new boy, the fast-rising Ant Law on guitar, Garland is reaching for (and for the most part, grabbing with both hands) a grand fusion - one that is fresh and original but redolent nonetheless of a life spent listening.
