For her solo debut of postcards not so much from the edge as from the heart, harpist Tríona Marshall has gathered an exceptional mix of melodies and musicians. Plaintive, pulsating and pugnacious, Marshall draws on her own personal history of both classical and traditional to populate this ever-surprising collection.
Collaborating with Martin Tourish, who composed many of the tunes, she excavates deep beneath the rhythmic and playful elements of the music (with Nathan Pilatzke on The Hangman's Set), and mines the meditative qualities of the harp (Elegy with Paddy Moloney on tin whistle). The supporting cast includes Martin Hayes, Seamus Begley, Seán Keane and Tim Edey. The words of Marshall's father ring true: 'It's like I've been sent a postcard from a place I knew existed but had forgotten about'.
