Dutch-born, Dublin-resident Burlesque artist Truly Divine (we have a hunch that’s not her real name) has emerged over the past five years as one of the more convincing of the rash of Irish singers channelling Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, et al.
Divine’s live shows celebrate the frothier end of that tradition (think Blossom Dearie meets Doris Day), mixing flirty theatricality and an authentic sense of period with precise vocals and an attention to the musical details of the songs, ably abetted by pianist Josh Johnston.
This 14-song selection from those shows, including lesser-heard standards like Down with Love and This Girls in Love with You, won't change the world, but is nonetheless a poised and smile-inducing survey of an abidingly popular form.
