POP/ROCK
Peter Gabriel
3Arena, Dublin 8pm €65.45/ €44.05 3Arena.ie
Gabriel, one of rock's most valid innovators, performs a rare Irish show – and it's one that will span his entire career, ranging from Genesis to solo. Expect a meal of a performance, from Supper's Ready to Solsbury Hill, his iconic album So, and a visual treat for the eyes.
HIP-HOP
Talib Kweli
Sugar Club, Dublin 7.30pm €22.50 twitter.com/TalibKweli
Talk about timing: Talib Kweli’s old Black Star mucker, Mos Def, was in town just the other week. Since their righteous 1998 collaboration, Kweli has been a prolific artist, releasing six solo albums as well as working with Madlib, Hi-Tek (as Reflection Eternal) and many others. As befits a politically sussed and tuned-in artist, Kweli has been aiding and assisting various campaigns across the US in recent years.
ART
Eavan Boland: A Poet’s Dublin
Illuminations Gallery, Iontas Bldg, NUI Maynooth Until Dec 19 illuminationsgallery.wordpress.com
Carcanet published A Poet's Dublin this year in celebration of Eavan Boland's 70th birthday. It combines many of Boland's best-known poems with her photographs of Dublin. This exhibition places poems and (very good) photographs together with recordings of Boland (above) reading. What comes across in the photos is her eye for the telling detail in the ordinary, and her watchful, nuanced sensibility.
