Two wines offering exceptional value for money

Wines for the Weekend: A bottle perfect for a barbecue and another with an elegant and smooth finish, both from Dunnes Stores

Pech Sevignac Côte 128 Viognier 2021 and Rapaura Springs Pinot Noir
Pech Sevignac Côte 128 Viognier 2021 and Rapaura Springs Pinot Noir

As regular readers will know, I am a fan of the wines made by Laurent Miquel. The viognier below is no exception. At a recent tasting, it stood out as offering exceptional value for money. I reckon it would be a perfect barbecue white, served alongside grilled fish, chicken or vegetables. I am also a fan of the wines made by New Zealander Matt Thomson. He makes a range of wines in both northern and southern hemispheres, including the Rapaura Springs below.

Pech Sevignac Côte 128 Viognier 2021, pays d’Oc, Laurent Miquel

Abv 13.5%; €12.80, down from €16 at Dunnes Stores

Dripping with succulent peaches and nectarines that are brought to life by a nervy streak of acidity. Great value for money. Try it with spicy or grilled fish, chicken and pork.

Rapaura Springs Pinot Noir €15.20

Abv 13.5%; €15.20, down from €19 at Dunnes Sores

Elegant and smooth with very seductive ripe red fruits and a hint of spice on the finish. Suited paired with mushroom dishes, grilled salmon steaks, or pasta with fresh tomato sauce.
