A savoury scone with black pudding and apple made by Graham Herterich, who trades as The Cupcake Bloke, is the winner of the Goodall's Best Scone 2014.
Herterich sources the black pudding for his winning scone from his cousin, Louis Herterich, who runs a butcher shop and food hall in Longford.
Public votes accounted for 50 per cent of the judging process, with the remainder based on a bake-off judged by Paul Kelly, executive pastry chef at The Merrion hotel; writers Sophie White and Fiona Dillon; food blogger Sheila Kiely, and Róisín O'Shea from Goodall's. The other finalists were The Tea Rooms, Quin; Coffee Pod, Cork; Janey Mac, Kinsale; Café Fergus, Newmarket-on-Fergus; Mitchell's Café, Kylemore Abbey; Centra, Gorey; The Pantry, Kilkee; The Tea Rooms, Duckett's Grove and Daisy Cottage Farm, Co Wicklow.
The Cupcake Bloke cakes and scones are on sale at the Coppinger Row market in Dublin 2, on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays (10.30am-4.30pm).
