Four years ago, I was working as a nurse in London and was travelling in New Zealand when I met an Irish girl who talked to me about the Camino for the first time. We became friends and decided to do our first Camino together. I immediately fell in love with the experience as it makes you feel so alive.
Today, due to technology, we are constantly connected to others. On the Camino, you can completely disconnect. You mightn’t see a single person for a few hours on the trail and, instead, you’ll start to connect with yourself at a deeper level.
Another aspect I love about the Camino is the way that people who don't know each other and who don't share the same culture are ready to help each other. Their only bond is the journey itself. As a consequence, kindness is more present on the Camino than in our daily busy lives, making us question how we all live outside of this journey. I've been so moved by the experience that a year ago my partner and I decided to settle in northern Spain and set up our own business, Magic Hill Holidays, organising Camino trips. Helping Irish people have the best Camino experience possible makes me very happy.
