Environmental Scheme:An Irish-owned golf resort near Silves in Portugal has been recognised by the Portuguese government as "a project of national interest".

Oceanico Developments' Amendoeira Golf Resort on the Algarve was given the award by the Portuguese Investment Agency, which recognises developm ents which are environmentally sustainable and "positively affect the community through the economy, employment and other innovative programmes".

Amendoeira is a €500 million resort on 650 acres 30 minutes' drive from Faro l airport, where apartments cost from €495,000, villas from €800,000. The resort includes a golf training academy, tennis club, five-star spa and country club with children's facilities.
