Shopfront: Dunnes Stores' homewares department has come on so much in recent years that it should no longer be thought of only if budget shopping. Visit because you want to, not because you have to.
Most of what it sells is desirable in itself, never mind the low prices. (Although there are a few hideous things in for spring. Brocade cushions. We'll say no more).
The best place to go is Cornelscourt in Cabinteely, as it has the biggest range of goods. Some of the best stuff there is bedlinen, although the truth is that it isn't going to last forever. But prices are so good it hardly matters. While medium quality cottons do tend to go "bally" after a while, some are better at taking wear than others.
One of the best, as far we can tell, is a range made up of shades of grey which get softer after a few washes because they are both flannel and a fabric similar to T-shirt cotton material. The combination of cable-knits, flannel and checked cotton give an American New England feel. A single duvet cover costs €25; flannel single fitted sheet €10, flat €12; double duvet €30; fitted double sheet €12, flat €14; king duvet €40; king fitted sheet €14, flat €15; pillowcase €5; and cable knit cushion €15.
