Glasnevin/€900,000: The houses built by Alexander Strain around 100 years ago in the Iona area of Glasnevin, Dublin 9, vary in style and size. On leafy Iona Road alone, there are several different types and number 11 is a terrace-style house at the Botanic Road end of the road.

The four-bedroom period redbrick with ??? sq m (?,??? sq ft) is for auction by Douglas Newman Good on June 17th with a guide of €900,000.

The owners have lived here for 10 years and, during that time, they renovated and extended the property. Downstairs, there are two interconnecting reception rooms with matching original marble fireplaces and stripped and polished floorboards. Originally there was a door from the back reception room leading out into the back garden.

This has now been opened up to provide access to the back area of the house which has been extended and reworked to make a large diningroom that opens into a small kitchen area. The diningroom is decorated in a distinctive style with exposed brick walls and wooden ceiling beams and, indeed, the whole house reflects the owners' taste in period décor.

This is a three-storey house, the third-storey being at attic level with a charming attic dormer window to the front.

There are two bedrooms and the main bathroom on the first floor. The main bedroom was created by knocking together the two front rooms so the bedroom now runs the width of the house and is an attractive room with two large windows, including a bay, and the original cast-iron fireplace.

Both doors have been kept so new owners could, if they needed the space, revert to the original design.

There is a double bedroom to the back. The bathroom and toilet were once two separate rooms and have now been knocked together to create a particularly striking room with a free-standing bath and an original Victorian shower.

Up at attic level there are two bedrooms, one a large double, the other a small single. Both rooms share a smart, newly-installed en suite.

The north-facing back garden has been newly landscaped in a contemporary style for low maintenance.
