De Veres auction of 20th Century and Contemporary Design Furniture takes place at 6pm on Tuesday (October 4th) in the Physicians Hall, 6 Kildare Street, Dublin 2. Viewing is underway at de Veres gallery close by at 35 Kildare Street.
Auctioneer Rory Guthrie said the lots include mainly "Danish and Italian pieces from the 1950s, 60s and 70s" and among the designers featured are Finn Juhl, Arne Vodder, Niels Moller, Philippe Starck, Willy Rizzo, C+B Italia (now known as B+B Italia) and Poltrona Frau.
Highlights include Lot 27, “a very unusual cocktail table that has a hinged burr walnut top that opens up to reveal its contents” catalogued as “a burr walnut metamorphic cocktail table in Willy Rizzo style, French, 1970s” estimated at €1,400-€1,800. De Veres say “the perfect item to place on such a table is Lot 23, a large pineapple-form champagne ice bucket by Mauro Manetti, Florence, gilded metal” (€300-€500).

Lot 9 is a pair of Danish rosewood Diplomat chairs (see picture) designed in 1962 by Finn Juhl estimated at €1,000-€1,500. Diplomat chairs , complete with signature "floating" seat and backrest, made by France & Son, one of Denmark's leading furniture makers, were used to furnish Danish embassies around the world.
Lot 31 is a set of six rosewood Model 78 dining chairs, also 1960s Danish, by Niels Moller (€1,000-€1,500).
Lot 36 is a very futurist-looking MT3 Rocking Chair – estimated at €400-€600 – designed in 2004 by Ron Arad for Driade and made of moulded polyetheline so it can be used indoor or out.
Lot 48 is a set of eight Louis Ghost Chairs by Philippe Starck for Kartell described as “another remake of a classic chair, this one Starck’s take on the instantly recognisable Louis XVI armchair” (€800-€1,400).
