Roads: a new Waterford to Dublin motorway is under construction and is expected to open by 2010. A much-needed second bridge over the River Suir is also planned. A major new bypass will also allow traffic on the N25 from Dublin and Rosslare to avoid the city en route to Cork.
Trains: six trains a day to Dublin via towns in Kilkenny, Carlow and Kildare. First train departs Waterford at 6.10am and arrives at Dublin Heuston at 8.45am. Last train departs Heuston at 18.25pm and arrives in Waterford at 20.56pm. There are also (very) limited rail services west to Limerick Junction via Clonmel, and east via the south Wexford villages, to Rosslare.
Bus: the Bus Éireann depot on the south quays offers services to Dublin, Cork, Athlone, Longford and Tralee and to towns throughout the south-east region. Within the city, there's a rudimentary public transport system with six bus routes. There are also private coach operators.
Airport: about five miles from the city centre (www.flywaterford.com). Cork Airport is 80 miles away.
