Shopfront: While Irish jewellery designer Vivien Walsh sells her work - and plenty of clothing by other designers - from her shop on Stephen Street, she also has an antique medicine cabinet whose many drawers are full of large and small pieces of some most unusual fabrics.
Purple, pink and red "frill" fabrics and embroidered Indian aqua and turquoise sari-like materials are folded beside natural untreated muslins and holey boiled wools. While obviously intended for sale as scarves, we think they would also be a novel way to cover a dining table. Not for your everyday meal but for a special occasion some imaginative draping could be an easy way to smarten up your table top. Choose three or four in complementary colours and let them overlap and crisscross each other. Prices start at about €40 and go up to €165.
